Batty Hairclip Tutorial | Cricut Explore Air 2 Review

There is nothing better than a quick and easy holiday project, especially when it involves Halloween. My kids love having little things to wear and do to help them feel the holiday spirit of every season. It really helps keep the excitement alive to have something to look forward to. One of my favorite things to do is find hair-dos or clips for my girls to wear to school. I was looking through the Cricut Design Space “make it now” projects, and found these adorable little bats. As soon as I saw them, I knew I could make a cute little Batty Hairclip.
This really is such a fast and easy project. All you need is a sheet of glittery fabric (next to the felt sheets at Hobby Lobby), googly eyes, pom-poms, hot glue, and some hairclips for the back of the bats.
I was able to try out the new Cricut Explore Air 2 with this project. At first, I was frustrated with the initial setup because installing the drive software took forever on my computer. However, once it was installed and working, the Explore Air 2 worked like a dream! It cut precisely and quickly, and I really love it! I found the bat shoe clip project in Design Space, and got to work. I left the bats the size that they come up as (about 4 inches wide) and then clicked GO. You’ll want to turn the knob to cut fabric with backing, and then it should cut through without a problem.
Once you have your bats cut out. the rest will take you no time at all! Start by folding the neck down and hot gluing it into place. This will make it so that the pom pom will fit exactly in the middle of the wings while still showing the cute pointy ears up above the pom pom.
Next, hot glue the pom pom into the center of the bat.
Glue some googly eyes onto the top of the pom pom.
Attach a hairclip to the back of the bat. I like to add some ribbon to my clips because it makes the glue hold better, but it is optional. I also heat seal the edges of the ribbon so that it doesn’t come unraveled.
Now you have an adorable batty hairclip (or two) to put into your little girl’s hair! My daughter loved the way that they looked in her hair and didn’t want to take them out at the end of the day! I call that a win. They looked darling in front of her little piggy buns, so I can’t say that I blame her for wanting to keep them on!
