diy-apothecary-jars

It’s time to kick off my very FAVORITE time of year with a project for my favorite holiday! I thought it would be fun to start off with some DIY Halloween apothecary jars, and I think you’re going to like them. These are so simple to put together and add just the right amount of spooky without going over the top.

You’ll want to start collecting jars. I had a pickle jar and two different kind of olive jars that were all shaped differently and were different sizes. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried taking a label off of a jar, but it is a sticky mess and so frustrating. I decided to try using Goo Gone to help me get the labels off, and it was amazing how easy it was! I found the Goo Gone over at Walmart in the cleaning section. It was a little hard to find on the bottom shelf, but I am glad I did. I pulled up the label as much as I could, and then sprayed the Goo Gone over the top and let it sit for a bit. Then I used a baby wipe and wiped the labels off. Did you hear me? I wiped the labels off!!!! It made it a breeze.

Once the jars and lids had their labels removed, I ran the jars through the dishwasher so that there wouldn’t be any residue or lingering spray on the jars and they came out crystal clear!

Now for the fun part. I bought some skeleton heads and hands, as well as some skeleton action figurines from Zurchers and decided to try adding them to the lids. I used E6000 to attach them, and then sprayed them with a semi-gloss black paint once the glue had dried.

You’ll want to let the spray paint fully cure, and then you’re good to go! Add your favorite ghoulish treats to the jars and add them to your display.

My son thinks they are awesome and he keeps growling at them. I think it’s hilarious!

For the treats inside the jars, I went to Target and grabbed some eyeball gumballs, gummy fangs, and candy corn. I thought it would be more fun to add the skeleton hands to the candy corn jars instead of just leaving it candy and I am really glad I did. The hands just add that little extra something that is so fun!

I hope you’ll try these out sometime! You’ll love how easy and fun they are.
