Valentine’s Day is coming up, and it is my second most favorite holiday of the year. Every year, I really like to take things just a little bit over the top with printables, tutorials, decorations, and Valentines, and this year might be the best one yet. First up, I have these tissue paper stained glass hearts that are so easy, my four year old literally made them while I took pictures.

Two years ago, I made stained glass hearts with melted crayons. I still love them so much, but I wanted to find a tutorial that is much simpler to do, less mess, and less prep time. I think this definitely fits the bill for that. To get started, you’ll need a few supplies.

  • Tissue paper (I used two colors of pink, and a white)
  • Contact paper
  • Card stock
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors

To begin, you’ll want to cut your tissue paper. we folded the tissue paper in half, and then half again. Then Addie cut the paper into strips, piled the strips on top of each other, and then cut into squares. The squares ended up being about 1 inch squared.  After all of the colors are cut, pull out your contact paper and cut two pieces of identical size. Mine is 8.5X11.

With the sticky side up, place squares all over the contact paper pressing it down. Make sure to use all of the colors pretty evenly. Once it’s covered, take the second piece of contact paper to seal the tissue paper inside the two pieces.

For the next part, I stepped in and helped slightly. I cut out hearts using pink card stock. I used the basic method of folding the paper and cutting out a heart. once the heart was cut, I cut a second heart out of the middle of each heart so that only an outline of a heart remained.

My daughter took over from here. Using her Elmer’s glue stick, she glued each of the hearts onto the contact paper. Once dry, I cut around the edges of the hearts.

The only thing left to do was to tape the hearts to some clear thread and hang them in my kitchen window.

I love the way these look and think they would look really great paired with the melted crayon ones I already made. I might just need to pull them out tomorrow to try it out. 🙂
