Geometric Pencil Holder

I have been dying to share this project with you! My team for the Cricut Design Space challenge decided to choose the theme “pencils”, making today the perfect day to share my geometric pencil holder!

Once of my very favorite features on the Cricut Design Space is the upload images feature.  You can easily upload any image and make it cut-able on your machine.  The program allows you to take away any background images so that you can cut only the things that you want to cut, PLUS the cuts are incredibly straight and clean instead of jagged lines that I have seen on other machines when using the trace feature.

To make this pencil holder, I imported an image into design space from this website that has a TON of fun geometric shapes that would all be really great pencil holders. The shapes are free.  To get it to the size that you want, you will need to divide the pattern slightly so that it can fit onto the mat that you are cutting with.  I used some mat board from the framing section at Hobby Lobby to create my pencil holder.  You can get a big pack of 12 inch pieces for $8-10.  After the pieces are all cut out, I used hot glue to attach the pieces together and then used wood filler to fill in all the cracks to give it a more smooth finish.  Once that was dry, I sanded it down and then spray painted the entire thing using a Rustoleum metallic spray paint from Home Depot.
