Blood Orange Sweet Rolls
I really do have an obsession with blood oranges. I think they are just such a beautiful fruit and am always looking for ways to use them. These blood orange sweet rolls presented the perfect opportunity. The blood orange gives them such a beautiful color and the flavor is a little more delicate than the traditional orange roll.
These rolls would make a delicious Valentines Day breakfast. My kids loved them and asked for them at every meal!
I love them for their soft dough and creamy, not too sweet frosting. I don’t know about you, but overly sweet frosting on an already sweet roll drives me nuts. Then again, I have been known to scrape most of the frosting off of my doughnuts and cupcakes. Just a little sweetness is enough for me. Which is why this frosting is one of my favorites.
If you aren’t crazy about sweet rolls but are intrigued by the blood orange, may I suggest this dessert?
You will find the recipe for the blood orange cream cheese buttercream at the bottom of this post. For the roll recipe, head on over here to my site! And thanks Jonie, for letting me share this recipe over here with you!
Ingredients
- 8 oz.(2 sticks) Butter, softened
- 16 oz. Cream Cheese, softened
- 5-6 Cups Powdered Sugar
- 5 T. Blood Orange Juice
Instructions
- Place the butter and cream cheese in a mixing bowl and beat until smooth and creamy. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar. Mixture will be thick. Beat in the orange juice 1 T. at a time until incorporated. Beat the frosting at medium/high speed for 1 minute, or until smooth.
- Use to frost blood orange sweet rolls. Frosting can be directly spread on to the rolls with a spatula, or put in a piping bag and piped in swirls on top of the rolls.
