Caramel Dipped Pears
Kayley is back today to share another amazing recipe with us. Â I need to try this ASAP! Â Just look at what she has come up with this time!
Hi Everyone!
I’m back today following in the theme of the week and have brought you a fancy little edible Christmas gift idea.
One of my favorite food gifts to receive during the Holiday season is a hand dipped caramel apple. But after years of dipping apples I am ready for a change. How about a pear instead of an apple? They go great with chocolate and caramel and the shape is so elegant and pretty.
I dipped my pears in my favorite homemade caramel (guess what? It’s an easy recipe!) and then coated them in chocolate, toasted hazelnuts, coarse salt, and chopped English toffee.
I made little tags by cutting a leaf shape out of kraft paper, writing a little message, and then attaching it with twine.
Super simple, right?
Instead of making caramel apples this season, maybe give these a try?!
Ingredients
- Microwave Caramel Recipe
- 1 C. Butter
- 2 1/4 C. Packed Light Brown Sugar
- 1 14 oz. can Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1 C. Light Corn Syrup
- 1 t. Vanilla
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large, microwave safe bowl. Make sure that the bowl is large enough that the caramel mixture won't boil over when it cooks.
- Add the brown sugar, sweetened condensed milk, and corn syrup. Stir well.
- Microwave on high for 14-20 minutes(total time will depend on your microwave), removing to stir every 3 minutes, then quickly get it cooking again.
- When it has reached the right consistency, add the vanilla to the caramel and stir thoroughly.
- *If you don't cook it long enough, it will be too soft and sticky. If you cook it too long it will be hard and chewy.
- My microwave only takes 14 minutes, but other microwaves I've used take much longer.
- When the caramel nears 14 minutes of cooking, place a drop of it in a cup of ice water. Wait a minute and then remove it and check the consistency. If it falls apart, it needs to cook longer. If it is too hard, it is over cooked.
- TO MAKE THE CARAMEL DIPPED PEARS:
- *select pears with long stems still attached.
- Make the caramel according to directions. Allow to cool for a minute or two. Holding the pear by the stem, dip into the caramel and turn to coat on all sides. Hold the pear above the caramel and allow the excess caramel to drip off.
- Place the pear on a sheet of parchment paper and allow the caramel to firm up.
- Dip the pear in melted chocolate and then dip the bottom of the pear in chopped nuts, toffee, chocolate shavings, or any other toppings you desire.
- Place on parchment paper and allow the chocolate to set.
******Thanks Kayley for sharing these pears with us! Â They look amazing! Â If you like what you see, you should definitely go check out Kayley’s blog, The Kitchen McCabe and check out her Facebook page as well. Â You won’t regret it, promise! Â And, just because I think it makes a great gift idea (and looks amazing too) you should go pin this Brown Sugar Honey Facial Scrub to either give as a gift, or use for yourself!
HOLY AMAZING!!!!! Are you serious?! WOW – this is incredible. I’ve never seen caramel dipped pears. Wow. I want one sooooo bad!!
Thank you!! Yeah, you don’t see dipped pears that often….but I promise it totally works, haha!
Pears?!? These are adorable. I especially love the little tags!
Quick question… Do you need to remove the peel from the pear?
Thanks, Jesseca! No peeling, you can leave the skins on! The caramel gotsta have something to hold on to 🙂
Oh wow those look absolutely amazing
Thank you, Marissa!
I would have never thought to try this….now I will need to. Yum!
Holly, you will love them!
muy bueno el analisis, estoy seguro que en las proximas no será un 300% si no un 700%mas que depositarán la confianza en vosotros, gracias por existir y darnos estos animos a las personas con sensibilidad .
Oh wow! I would never have thought to do that but they look divine! Yum.
Thanks, Debra! I know, kind of different, huh?
WOW! Never heard of caramel dipped pears, but I bet they are divine! And they are so pretty too!
Thank you, Amber! They are yummy, I like them just as much as caramel apples 🙂
Oh my goodness. I love caramel apples so much, but caramel pears? These look so divine and beautiful and I love the leaf tag! I want them now!
Thank you, Aimee! We liked them even more than apples over here!
Oh my goodness!!! These are SO stunning. These would make such an impression over the holidays. Just love, love, love.
Laura, thank you so much!
I love caramel dipped pears. These look amazing! Pinned!
Thank you Leanne!
These are absolutely gorgeous – so much more elegant than an apple.
Thank you Angela! They certainly fit your blog name!
Gorgeous! Does the caramel set up enough to be able to wrap these loosely in cello? What’s the shelf life? I’d love to ship some. Thanks for the lovely idea.
Thanks, Stacy! The caramel should firm up just fine as long as it has been cooked long enough. These hold up really well for bagging! These will keep at room temperature for several days. Pop them in the fridge to extend their shelf life 🙂
These pears are lovely. They would certainly make a beautiful center piece for dinner. Can your caramel recipe be made on the stove top too?
Thank you Christine! You could certainly make them on the stove top, just make sure to test the caramel in the ice water so it doesn’t over cook!
Thank you for sharing!! I was wondering two things! Once the caramel is made, does it need to be hot or cold when you dip your pear? And then secondly, after you dip the pear in caramel, how long does it need to set before you can dip it in other yummies? Thank You in advance for any suggestions you can give!
April, you’re welcome!
You would want to dip the pears while the caramel is still hot or else it will firm up too much and you won’t be able to dip. The caramel sets quite quickly, so you will really only need to wait for about 5 minutes until you can dip the pears in other things. Happy dipping!
These are stunning to see. If you have extra caramel, what do you do to soften it, if you want to use it later?
Thank you, Cindy!
To soften extra caramel you can place the hardened caramel(this is easier if the caramel is cut into small pieces) in a saucepan and add a few Tabelspoons of milk or cream. Stir the haredened Carmel over medium- medium/low heat until it begins to melt. Eventually it will all melt. Stir well!
These look scrumptious!! Do you use a certain kind of pear (besides the long stem)? Also, once completely solidified, does the coating separate from the pear when cut into?
Thank you Kim! I use Bosc pears when I am wanting an Elegant look, but I like to eat them best with bartletts.
The caramel won’t separate from the pear at all when you cut it. It stays together nicely!
These look GORGEOUS and delicious!! I was wondering if you prefer one dipping better than another that’s always a crowd pleaser or one dipping combo that’s your favorite (coarse salt, chocolate etc)
Thank you, Kelly!
My favorite is just Carmel with a little coarse sea salt, but the most popular with others seem to be the ones with caramel, chocolate, and nuts.
These are beautiful. How many pears do you use for one batch of caramel? Thanks.
Thank you Debbie! I usually have enough to dip at least 8 very large pears or 12 smaller pears.
When cooking in the microwave does it matter if you cover the bowl or not? Thanks for your help!
Make sure and leave it uncovered! All that steam needs somewhere to go 😉
These pears are just beautiful – and the caramel doesn’t come away when you eat it? Fantastic. I hate that with toffee apples, when you end up chasing bits of toffee around as it shatters.
would the temp of the caramel be “soft ball stage”? I would be much more comfortable on the candy thermometer than guessing. Anxious to try these for the fall holidays and dinner place cards!!! Beautiful shower favors also. Thanks….sue
What kind of pear did you use or what kind would you recommend for this recipe? Thanks!
Thank you for this recipe. I’ve pinned as well (http://www.pinterest.com/cooljene/delicious-desserts-starters-mainsall-edible-goodne/) and made them yesterday for a friend whom was having work colleagues for dinner. I made 18 of these and there was not a single one left over – apparently they were the hit of the party and 6 of the guests asked how much did your friend charge and can we get her number.
Next time, I’m charging!!!
I’m making some for a friends fundraiser and am going to include them this month as part of our Thanksgiving desert.
Thank you, just the other day my eldest son was asking for caramel apples. but his brother is on the Feingold diet and has huge behavioral issues if he eats even a slice of apple. Pears he does great with. Can anything be subbed for the corn syrup though!! My sons ears turn bright red and burn when he eats anything GMO and I am not sure I can find non gmo corn syrup.
What would you eat these with ? Would they be good with a cheese board ? Or serve as a simple dessert ? The look pretty amazing ! Job well done .
Is that a teaspoon or tablespoon of vanilla?
Kaley, How long do these last unrefrigerated and what about refrigerated? I would love to try these! I love pears!! They are just amazing and so elegant! Thank you!!
These look absolutely delicious! Pears are my favorite fruit! What a pretty presentation as well! I cannot wait to try!
Wow, looks so beautiful and delicious, what a beautiful comb of caramel and pears, love it!!
Please, what can I use instead of corn syrup ?
Oh my the presentation of these pears is beautiful! The salted caramel one is calling my name!
Do you have a stove top version for the Carmel Pear recipe versus the microwave version?
