DIY-Clover-Tutorial

I am feeling the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day more and more.  I have even pinned some cute ideas of things that I think would be fun to do for my family on St. Patrick’s Day itself.  In the spirit of getting my house ready for the holiday, I made another fun decoration for my house that I think turned out pretty dang cute!  Here’s a link to my other St. Patrick’s Day posts. If you would like to make a clover for yourself, here’s the tutorial.

Materials Needed:

  • Wooden clover and vinyl kit from Fabdecor
  • Cute scrapbook paper
  • Piece of metal
  • Green paint
  • Mini Nails
  • Sandpaper

You will start your DIY Clover by painting the sides of the clover green.  You don’t really need to paint the top since it will be covered in paper, and the bottom won’t ever be seen.  You can paint it if you want to, but it’s not necessary.

The next step is to get the paper to be a clover shape.  I simply put the clover down making sure that the side that was going to have the paper on it was touching the back side of the paper.  Simply trace around the clover and then cut the shape out.

Next you will adhere the paper to the clover with mod podge.  Once it is dry, use sandpaper and go around the edges to get rid of any paper that is hanging over the sides.  It also gives it a much more finished look.  I wanted to try something a little different with this decoration, so I decided to add the piece of metal so that I could hang photos up with magnets on it.  It is really easy to attach.  Just one nail in each corner will hold it in place.

The last thing I did was to add the vinyl saying.  With the photo of my family as the one that I used for this clover, the saying definitely has two different meanings.  It is a classic St. Patrick’s Day saying, but I am also saying that I am feeling lucky for what I have.

I wanted to thank Fabdecor for the fun kit.  It really was a fun project to put together and it looks cute sitting on my fireplace mantle.  If you were to make this, what photo do you think you would put on it?  What makes you feel LUCKY?
