Shirley J Review and Giveaway!
While I was out doing my Christmas shopping at the mall last December I happened upon a kiosk that I had never seen before. It caught my eye for several reasons. The biggest thing that caught my attention was the name, Shirley J. My niece is named Alice Shirley Johnston, so it was pretty much awesome.
The second thing that caught my eye was a cart full of darling mugs and bags of mixes. It peaked my interest, so I went back to learn more about it. I really think it is a such a cool concept! Basically, Shirley J sells premade mixes that you can use to cook gourmet meals or something simple and delicious.
Today I want to tell you about the simple mug mixes, specifically the brownie mix. I was sent two of these cute mugs and a box full of brownie mix to try out. I had tried one of the other mixes before, but I had never cooked them myself. I enlisted the help of my three year old and got to work trying it out. I couldn’t believe how easy it really was! All you need to do is pour the brownie mix into the cup, add 5 TBS of water, cook for 90 seconds and that’s it!
Here’s my opinion of the taste of the mix. It is different then the brownie taste I am used to. It is not quite as dense as a brownie, but it was still tasty. I tried two different ways of cooking it. I first tried using the mix by itself and the second time I tried adding some milk chocolate chips to the mix before cooking. I definitely preferred the taste with the chocolate chips. It was really tasty! I am thinking of trying it with some white chocolate chips or caramel just to mix things up.
The brownie mix itself is a really great base and would be easy to add anything to and make it taste great.
These mugs would be a perfect gift for Valentines Day. I love that they are pink and will definitely be using them for my hot chocolate consumption as well 🙂
