Are you ready for another fun Christmas decoration?  Today I have a cute Christmas countdown that I whipped up the other day using my Silhouette machine.  I am pretty much in love with the way that it turned out!

Christmas Countdowns

I made the sign to be 2 feet tall by 1 foot wide and it is made out of MDF.

It is fairly simple to put together.  I designed it using the Silhouette Studio software and cut out my vinyl.  Then I painted my wood the cream color.  Once the paint was dry, I added the vinyl making sure that it was on straight and made sure that I had really great contact with all the letters to the wood.

I painted over the top of the vinyl with my red color.  The red that I bought was a little brighter then I expected it to be, so I darkened it with a little bit of black paint and got this deep rich red that I LOVE!  Before the red paint was completely dry, I started taking the vinyl off the sign.

Once it was all dried, I used some sandpaper and distressed it a little bit so that it didn’t look so perfect.  I like the more worn look, and the sand paper achieved that nicely.

Last, I cut out my chalkboard vinyl using my silhouette again so that my rectangle would fit PERFECTLY in the little space I had made for it.  When you use chalkboard vinyl, you have to use a piece of chalk to prime it by rubbing the chalk on it and then erasing it.  That way, you are able to erase the chalk.

Christmas Countdown

Ta-da!  You can either add hanging hardware onto the back of it, or you can lean it against the wall.  Either way, your family is sure to love changing it every day to see just how many more days until Christmas!

If you like this sign, I have found a shop that sells the original design already made for you!  Head over and order your sign so that you can get counting down because Christmas is coming right up!
