Valentines Day Muddy Buddies

My girls love to help in the kitchen. (My son does too, but it usually is in the form of destruction.) Whenever I have a simple recipe or something that doesn’t require knives, I like to let them help me. Over the last week or so, my husband has been out of town, and I have been looking for projects and recipes to make with my girls that would keep them entertained, and also provide a little bit of fun for all of us. With all of that in mind, I went with the easiest recipe in the world, and one that is the BEST for letting little girls help you with. These Valentine’s Day Muddy Buddies are so tasty, and the girls LOVED making them with me.

I don’t know if you’ve ever made muddy buddies before or not, but if you haven’t, you’re in for a real treat. 5 ingredients is all this takes, and approximately 10 minutes. (less if you don’t have helpers) 🙂 We wanted to test out two different flavors of chex cereal, and it was perfect since I have two little girls.

To make this, you’ll need:

  • Chex Cereal (We made half of the batch with Rice Chex, and the other half with Corn Chex)
  • 16 oz White CandiQuik chocolate
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 bag Frosted Animal Crackers
  • Sixlets (pink, found in the baking aisle at Smith’s)
  • Rainbow Sprinkles (optional)
  • 2 One gallon size Ziplock bags

Melt the chocolate according to directions. Add Chex cereal to ziplock bag until the bag is about halfway full then repeat with the second bag. Pour half of the chocolate into one ziplock bag over the top of the cereal, and the other half in the other bag of cereal. Seal bag, shake and move it around to coat cereal in chocolate. Crush animal crackers using a rolling pin and add to chex in the ziplock bag. Also pour in rainbow sprinkles, as many as you feel like you want. I used about a TBS per bag. shake until everything is covered. Add 1/4 c powdered sugar to each bag and shake bag again to cover. Add in a couple more crushed animal crackers for color, and then let set before serving.  Enjoy!
